In the piece, an aging scientist, realizing his inquiries continually return him to a model of his own mind, devises a set of experiments that blur the distinction between his inner and outer worlds. New Stage Theatre Company (NTSC) made an auspicious La MaMa debut last season with "Oh, Those Beautiful Weimar Girls!," an evening of the music and dance associated with exotic dancer Anita Berber, who symbolized many the decadence of Weimar era Berlin.

"SHIFTING GAZE" IS A FILM AND INSTALLATION CREATED FOR LARGE SCALE OUTDOOR OR INDOOR SPACES THAT SITS SOMEWHERE BETWEEN FILMMAKING, THEATER-DANCE, DIGITAL ART, MUSIC AND SOUND DESIGN.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Shifting Gaze is a film and video-art-music installation about CHOICE, DESIRE and MEMORY. Conceived and directed by Laia Cabrera (filmmaker and video-artist) and created in collaboration with Erica Glyn (music production, composer and singer) and Isabelle Duverger (photography and graphic animations). The project nature is based on creative collaboration between different disciplines. Shifting Gaze looks at our feeling of place and time in its most stripped down state: simply ‘being’. Hovering on the borders of consciousness, the film is an exploration of both event and human presence. The strongest principle of growth lies in human choice. Drawing on the fragments-presence of the body, faces, urban construction, nature, textures and remains of activity, "Shifting Gaze" takes you to the submerged, the transformed, the no longer visible.

"Claim Your Place” is a video-installation created for large scale outdoor or indoor spaces that sits somewhere between filmmaking, theater-dance, digital art and sound design.

This project explores beauty, desire and violence. It emerged from an encounter between Nuria Legarda and Laia Cabrera, two innovate Spanish/Catalan artists and creators. The video installation performance surrounds the audience with real-time projections as well as pre-recorded ones, putting them center stage and takes the audience on a unique journey by merging cinematic art, dance, photography, theater and visual arts. The various physical and virtual elements of Claim Your Place creates a sensorial landscape of storytelling.

La Laia Cabrera neix a Lleida. De ben jove l’atrau el món del video i de l’audiovisual. De fet, bona part de la seva formació la fa a la delegació de lleida de Televisió de Catalunya. La seva intenció no era quedar-se a Nova York, on hi arriba per diferents projectes i torna a marxar en funció de les feines que li surten, però hi acaba fixant residència des de fa 10 anys. Ha treballat amb estrelles com Andy Garcia de qui edita el documental “Cachao” i és la cineasta del Fashion Institute of technology de NY. El videoart i la música son les seves principals passions.

Sunday Dec 13 2009: WALK PASA BOUGE at Issue Project Room, Brooklyn, NYC

WALK – PASA – BOUGE is visually designed to expand and refract literary texts, weaving disparate sources and forms into a seamless theatrical whole between all performers. The show is partly improvised, fusing electronic music with visuals created using both traditional techniques and digital technologies. Using highly unique and unusual setups, the visual artists may be following the music or creating a separate line of parallel play with the aerialist, to be viewed by the multi-tasking mind of the 21st century viewer.

"Claim Your Place" is a theater, film and video-installation created for large scale outdoor or indoor spaces that sits somewhere between filmmaking, theater-dance, digital art and sound design.
This project explores beauty, desire and violence. The three pieces (the installation, the multimedia theater play and the film-dance piece) are conceived as a whole but can also function independently. The video installation surrounds the audience with real-time projections as well as pre-recorded ones, putting them center stage. The multimedia theater play takes the audience on a unique journey by merging cinematic art, dance, photography, theater, visual arts and exposition. In the film-dance piece, the audience observes projected imagery from the outside as a cinematic experience. The various physical and virtual elements of Claim Your Place creates a sensorial landscape of storytelling.
